Grow Your Own Mushrooms at Home for Food & Medicine: Growing your own mushrooms is an easy way to boost your home-grown nutrition and grow your own medicine. This workshop will offer an overview of some of the many ways you can grow mushrooms at your home or apartment and highlight ways you can make use of household waste as a food source for your mushrooms! This is suitable for beginners to mushroom cultivation, and for those who have tried without success to grow mushrooms. Each participant will leave with a grow kit of a delicious edible or medicinal mushroom and detailed instructions on care.
Grow Your Own Oyster Mushrooms: This workshop will offer an introduction to the amazing world of mushrooms and cover everything you need to know to grow your own oyster mushrooms where you live. We’ll each inoculate a 5 gallon bucket of oyster mushrooms to take home!
Fun with Fungi for Kids: This workshop will introduce you to the exciting world of mushrooms! Each participant will make their own Oyster Mushroom kit using recycled materials and learn the basics of growing mushrooms at home.
Mycoremediation: Allying with Fungi to Detoxify and Regenerate Land and Water: This workshop will discuss how fungi do their magic work: break down chemical pollutants- including oil, pesticides, and even Agent Orange; suck up heavy metals and radiation; filter water; bust up asphalt; and initiate and support many lifecycles that ultimately regenerate ecosystems. We will talk through some specific applications including how to filter water and detoxify contaminated soil with fungi.
Mushroom Companions to the Garden and Farm: Highlights edible and medicinal mushrooms which can be grown in spaces you can’t otherwise grow in, or can be companion planted in your gardens and orchards to boost plant growth and build healthy soil ecosystems. We’ll walk through how to make a mushroom bed, mushroom pathways, logs, and companion plant within your veggie beds, and discuss the important role of mycorhizal fungi in the garden and orchard.
DIY Mushroom Cultivation: learn hands-on how to grow your own mushrooms and spawn using low-tech techniques which are easy and cheap. You don’t have to be a scientist to cultivate mushrooms! Can be a weekend course, or an intro (3-8 hours).
Growing Medicinal Mushrooms: This workshop will offer an introduction to the amazing world of medicinal mushrooms, and how to grow your own. We’ll explore the nutritional and medicinal properties of Reishi, Turkey Tail, Lions Mane, Maitake, Shiitake and Oyster mushrooms, and how to prepare them in cooking, teas, broths, capsules and tinctures.
Digest Your Household Waste with Fungi: Oyster and King Stropharia mushrooms are great at breaking down household and urban waste.This workshop will offer an overview of some of the cool stuff you can do with fungi where you live- from growing protein-rich food on recycled materials, to filtering your greywater, to breaking down your cigarettes, animal waste, oil and grease and so much more.
Cool Stuff You Can Do With Fungi: Growing your own mushrooms is an easy way to boost your home-grown nutrition, grow your own medicine, and deal with your household and urban waste. This workshop will offer an overview of some of the cool stuff you can do with fungi where you live- from growing protein-rich food on recycled materials, to filtering your greywater, to to companion planting mushrooms into your veggie garden and so much more!
Mycorhizal Fungi & Garden Health: Learn more about mysterious ‘Mycorhizal’ Fungi, the beneficial and symbiotic fungi growing in association with plant roots that increase plants’ access to nutrients, increase resistance to drought and disease, and create air and water pockets in the soil which reduce erosion, drought, and create pockets of life for a healthy soil ecosystem. Sliding scale fees are variable prices for products, services, or taxes based on a customer’s ability to pay. Such fees are thereby reduced for those who have lower incomes, or alternatively, less money to spare after their personal expenses, regardless of income.
